About Us

As with most things, Upside began as an idea in 2020. An idea that under the banner of social justice, the local church should be involved in the community it serves to make a difference. That church was Southside Church. Who remains as the patron and active supporter of the work that Upside Community Services is involved in.

Upside is a registered Nonprofit Company or NPC. In South Africa, an NPC is the equivalent of a charity. It is also a type of Nonprofit Organisation or NPO and even a type of Non-governmental Organisation or NGO. However, as an NPC, Upside is subject to the same rigour and accountability as any public, for-profit company. It functions under the governance of a Board of Directors to execute the agreed current Memorandum of Incorporation or MOI.
